In the 1950s, Gerrit Vellekoop presented the first modern edition of Jacob van Eyck's Der Fluyten Lust-hof (XYZ). It was through this three-volume edition that thousands of recorder players all over the world fell in love with van Eyck's art of variation. Fourty
years later, time was ready for a New Vellekoop Edition, serving modern
needs and expectations. Including a critical commentary. Making use
of all available sources, such as the first edition of the original
first volume (Euterpe, 1644) which was not yet discovered when
Gerrit Vellekoop prepared his edition. Musicological research appeared
to be highly necessary. Van Eyck was blind and could not check the printed
notes on his own. Due to this, the original sources contain innumerable
errors. Solutions were found in the New Vellekoop Edition. It also includes
pieces that are absent from other modern editions, such as a Sarabande
with a splendid Modo 2 from Euterpe, and early versions of
'Psalm 118' and the 'Eerste Carileen'. All this makes the New Vellekoop
Edition (NVE) a must for every recorder player who wishes to take van
Eyck seriously...
